Step 1:
Measure childs' waist and cut elastic 2" smaller than measurement to allow for stretch. Sew both ends of elastic together by hand or with sewing machine.

Step 2:
You will need 4-6 yards of tulle for baby/toddler tutu if cutting from the bolt. Cut into 6" strips. Purchase 6" by 25 yard rolls to make it easier for you. The spool is already 6" wide, so all you have to do is cut down the length.

Let's say you want the tutu to be 14" long. Double that length to 28" and cut each strip to 28" long. You determine length.:)

If using tulle from the bolt, the best way to cut strips is to leave the tulle folded as it came from the store and cut it down to 6"strips so you're cutting though multiple layers. Saves you time. Or purchase 6" by 25 yard spools to bypass cutting the tulle into strips. You will need between 1-3 rolls. Average toddler tutu will use between 1.5 to 2.5 rolls.

Some strips might not come out completely even, but it really is okay once all strips are tied on. Any mistakes can be hidden.

Step 3:
Fold your strip in half and bring it behind the elastic waistband to form a loop.

Step 4:
Bring the ends of the tulle strip through the loop. Pull down to tighten. Make sure not to pull it too tight.

Step 5:
Slipknot should look like picture above.

Step 6:
Continue tying slipknots or regular knots around the entire waistband. You will probably use between 40-60 strips of tulle. All depends on waist size. And there you have a finished tutu!

Easy Push Pin Styrofoam Ball Ornament

We recently went to a friends school gathering where they had all of us decorate ornaments using sequin pins, sequins, ribbons, pipe cleaners and pom poms. We arrived a bit late and the only supplies left on my table were the sequins and push pins. So I got to work and came up with the following. Fairly simple to make. I imagine hot gluing the sequins on would be quicker. You can come up with different layouts and color combinations. I wanted to create a blue and silver combination, but there weren't enough colors, so I decided to just do a multi color one. We only had an hour to make the ornaments and the school was going to use our ornaments to decorate a tree at our local zoo. Limbourg Brothers Book of Days Art Project

The kids and I try to include at least one art lesson a week. Some of our lessons require more than one day to complete. We plan on going to the Art Institute soon and my husband and I want the kids to be familiar with some of the paintings we might see. So we've been using the book Discovering Great Artists: Hands-On Art for Children in the Styles of the Great Masters . So far we love it, and it has so many hands-on activities to explore the styles and techniques of the world's greatest artists. They also break up the sections by style/date. This week, we learned about Early Renaissance painters, The Limbourg Brothers. If you're not familiar with the Limbourg Brothers, they are three artist brothers who painted very detailed paintings using thin paintbrushes and magnifying glasses. They created a book with a calendar and pictures of the seasons. The art activity we followed asked to create our own Book of Days. I created a template and had the kids pick a favo
